Everyday tech, made clear.
A charger that fits your bag. Headphones that suit your commute. A desk setup that makes an ordinary workday a little easier. The most useful technology decisions often happen in the details.
GearPlain is an independent publication about those decisions. We explain everyday digital gear in plain English, connecting technical features to the situations where they actually matter.
What you will find here
Our five areas are charging and power, computers and desk accessories, audio, mobile essentials, and storage and connectivity. Articles compare formats, materials, compatibility requirements, and practical compromises. You will find guidance for both choosing something new and making better use of something you already own.
What “GearPlain” means
Gear is the technology we carry, connect, and use. Plain is how we think it should be explained: clearly, directly, and without making simple decisions feel more complicated than they need to be.
Useful perspective, with clear limits
Our current reviews are research-based comparisons, built from manufacturer documentation, technical standards, and everyday use cases. They are not laboratory reports or accounts of hands-on testing. We do not invent performance scores, personal experiences, or customer testimonials.
GearPlain Editors is our publication byline. It identifies content published by GearPlain; it does not imply a testing laboratory or an outside panel of experts. Read our editorial policy for the approach behind each guide.
A smaller, more considered setup
A worthwhile recommendation can be to keep what you have. We look for the difference between a feature that solves a recurring problem and one that simply adds complexity. The aim is to leave you better informed, with a clearer sense of your own priorities.
